Good preparation starts before the truck arrives. Tell your coordinator about fragile, high-value or unusual items, and review the protection listed in your written moving documents before moving day.
Before you move
- Photograph valuable or fragile items and note their condition.
- Identify items that need specialty packing and tell your coordinator who will pack them.
- Keep receipts, appraisals and other value records where you can find them.
- Ask what protection applies, its cost, exclusions and any deductible. Keep a copy of your selection.
New Jersey and interstate moves have different rules
Protection depends on the type of move and the terms of your contract. Ask your coordinator to explain the options that apply to your move; do not assume that the same terms apply to every shipment.
For interstate household-goods moves, FMCSA distinguishes Full Value Protection from Released Value. Valuation is the mover’s level of liability and is different from a separate insurance policy. Review the federal guidance and your own paperwork before choosing.
If something is missing or damaged
- Note the item and the concern on the delivery paperwork when you discover it.
- Take clear photos of the item, damage and relevant packaging.
- Keep the item and packaging available for review; ask before arranging repair or disposal.
- Contact Teddy Bear Moving with your booking reference, item description, photos and when you noticed the issue.
- Ask for the written claim procedure and applicable deadline. Keep copies of your report and responses.
