Kamal Kendrick is one of Teaneck’s standout real estate agents, working out of Russo Real Estate. We recently sat down with him to hear how he landed in the business, the philosophy that shapes his work with buyers, and what he hopes to see when he points a client toward a moving crew.
How he found his way into real estate
Kamal earned his degree from Muhlenberg College back in 2016, studying business alongside media and communications. Both of those fields, he says, gave him a natural runway into property, letting him carry lessons from the classroom straight into a brand new career.
The pull toward the work came from a simple place. He enjoys helping people, and guiding someone through each stage of buying a home is what he loves most. He is quick to add that he does not really think of himself as a salesperson. He is, in his words, in the relationship business. His aim is to earn a client’s trust and never let anyone feel cornered or rushed, since a home is one of the largest purchases a person will ever make.
Honesty anchors the way he operates. He tries to stay straight with people about what a move really involves, and he holds that same candor with every lead who comes his way.
Helping buyers picture the right home
When it comes to finding what he calls a forever home, Kamal has a favorite exercise. He asks clients to shut their eyes and imagine the ideal place. From there, he wants three features they would love but could live without, and three that are absolute non-negotiables. He also asks, up front, about their budget, because he likes to keep the search grounded in what their finances comfortably allow.
Then he flips it around and reflects that same picture back to them. The point is to hold the vision together and use it as fuel to keep moving forward. His promise is straightforward: the right home at the right price, a place where a family can settle in and make memories for years.
Why he is willing to wait
Would he really tell a buyer to pause and hold out for something closer to perfect? Absolutely, he says. Timing is not always in a buyer’s favor, and sometimes the smart play is to wait until the moment feels right. If a client has the luxury of patience, he lays out what is currently on offer in their neighborhood and price bracket. If nothing fits, he is happy to sit tight and watch for the next listing to surface.
Buyer’s or seller’s market?
His read on conditions is short and clear. Right now, he says, sellers hold the upper hand.
Going solo or joining a team
At the moment Kamal works with a smaller agency, one that has built strong standing locally over more than thirty years. In his situation he does not feel a large team is necessary. That said, he can imagine it differently at a big firm where a single office might hold a hundred agents. There, a team structure could pay off down the road. In the end, he says, it comes down to your own circumstances.
What sets New Jersey apart
Ask him how the job differs here compared with elsewhere, and the first thing he mentions is taxes. They run high in this corner of the state, he notes, while other regions, such as much of the South, sit far lower. Still, it is a trade-off. Living this close to New York means a constant flow of New Yorkers heading over the bridge for a fresh start, and buyers show up from every part of the country to plant roots here.
What agents want from a moving partner
Referrals matter, and Kamal has learned that a strong bench makes all the difference, whether that means lawyers, lenders, painters, or a mover. He wants to send clients to genuine experts while building relationships with people who lift one another up.
From a moving company in particular, his wish list is short: honest, transparent, professional, and quick to get the job done. When he hands over a client, he explains, that crew becomes an extension of him, so trust is everything. That is exactly the standard we hold ourselves to at Teddy Bear Moving, and it is why so many New Jersey families lean on our local moving crews when it is time to settle into a new address.
