Marlton is in Burlington County. This guide helps you research the cost of a particular home and routine; it is not a current price list. The earlier version included 2023 figures whose underlying sources could not be established. Those figures have been removed rather than presented as today’s costs.
Start with a real home
Compare currently available homes or rentals with similar size, condition and included services. For a rental, request the full written list of rent, deposits, parking, utilities and any recurring charges. For a purchase, use the property’s own records and professional estimates for the costs you expect to pay.
Ask which municipality handles the property and check its current tax records. New Jersey’s property-tax explanation describes how local assessments and rates relate to the bill. A townwide average is not a substitute for the bill on the address you are considering.
Price your actual weekly routine
Write down where each person travels for work, school and appointments. Check the exact route and fare using NJ TRANSIT, and add parking and any connecting journey. For driving, estimate your own mileage, fuel, tolls and parking instead of using a generic annual transportation total.
For childcare, use the New Jersey provider search to identify regulated providers, then ask them directly about places, hours and fees for your child’s age. Compare health-plan costs using your actual plan options and providers, rather than assuming a single average fits everyone.
Keep monthly and moving expenses separate
Make one list for recurring bills and another for one-time expenses: moving, packing supplies, overlapping housing dates and new-home essentials. Confirm what the lease or purchase arrangements require and leave room for costs you have not yet established.
