Choosing a school is part of choosing a home. If you are planning a move to Ridgewood, start with your child’s needs and the exact property address. A town name or a real-estate listing alone does not confirm school placement.
Confirm the address with the district
Before committing to a home, contact the district’s enrollment office. Ask which schools serve the address, what documentation is needed and how the transfer process works for your child’s grade. Ask separately about application-based programs; moving nearby does not itself confirm admission.
Use current official reports
The New Jersey Department of Education School Performance Reports provide a place to research schools using official information. Check the reporting year and compare the same period across schools. Enrollment, programs and results can change; use the district’s own current website to confirm details.
A single ranking cannot tell you whether a school fits your child. Make a short list of questions about learning support, course options, activities, transportation and the school-day schedule. Discuss those questions with the school rather than relying on unsupported lists of “best” schools.
Prepare the transition
- Ask both the current and receiving schools how to transfer records.
- Confirm the start date and required enrollment paperwork directly with the district.
- Discuss any learning or accessibility support with the appropriate school staff.
- Check transportation arrangements and the daily arrival and dismissal routine.
- Keep school paperwork and your child’s first-week essentials with you during the move.
